Resident urges moratorium on building, cites traffic congestion

Sedro‑Woolley — In public comment at the end of the study session, resident Philip Murray urged the council to impose a moratorium on local building because of traffic congestion connecting the city to regional highways.
Murray told the council, “I think you should have a moratorium on the building in this city. The traffic is so horrendous. I just spent 25 minutes to get from Burlington to here.” He said regional construction and developments outside the city are increasing traffic on the few roads that serve Sedro‑Woolley and called on the state to improve infrastructure, including adding lanes on the freeway.
The mayor acknowledged the comment and closed public comment without taking action on the moratorium request. Councilmembers did not vote or direct staff to study a moratorium during the meeting.
The council has the option to refer infrastructure or moratorium requests to staff for analysis at a future meeting. No referral was recorded in this session.
