Stevensville council clears routine business; presiding officer announces retirement

Stevensville — At its regular meeting the Town Council approved meeting minutes and claims, received administrative reports from airport, finance, police and fire departments, and heard a retirement announcement from the meeting’s presiding officer.

Minutes and claims: The council unanimously approved special-session minutes from Nov. 13, 2025, and approved two batches of claims (including an out-of-cycle batch 112725 covering claim numbers 20043–20075 and a subsequent batch 20076–20096). The council discussed one claim tied to a small strip of property near a school and instructed staff to coordinate with the town attorney on title issues if the town continues to pay taxes on the parcel.

Administrative reports: Airport staff (Brian) said eight runway lamps burned out in the last 45 days and that a contractor delayed mobilization for a planned fuel tank foundation until after the new year; November fuel sales were low (about 192 gallons, ~$1,098). Finance staff reported the general fund is about 41% spent year-to-date, with water and sewer funds at roughly 23% and 26%, respectively, and noted a one-time $4,000 lease-audit charge in the airport fund.

Public safety: Fire department staff reported about 658 service requests as of November and numerous vehicle-versus-deer collisions; the department received a donated ladder truck from Corvallis (reported as roughly 10 years newer than the surplus unit) and expects a radio-grant award in January with a roughly 5% local match estimated at about $68,400. Police reported November activity including six traffic citations, four traffic accidents and five thefts.

Retirement announcement: Late in the meeting the presiding officer announced plans to retire from public service after about 10 years, thanked staff across departments and acknowledged his spouse for support.

The council adjourned by unanimous oral vote.
