Staff also suggested signage and policies used at large public events — for example, clear-bag policies and entrance screening — might be relevant for some county buildings. Commissioners emphasized signage without enforcement would be ineffective and reiterated the need for a deputy presence when a meeting is expected to be contentious.
What’s next: the sheriff’s office will conduct a security assessment and report back; committees and steering committee will consider a written guideline that a chairman may request deputy presence for specific meetings.
