Gahanna council swears in new officer and honors local traditions and champions

Gahanna City Council opened its Dec. 15 meeting with ceremonial items including the swearing-in of Officer Garrett Whitney and several civic recognitions.
Mayor Jadwin, Director Becker and Chief Spence introduced Officer Whitney as a lateral transfer from Mansfield; Becker noted Whitney’s experience with the city’s new CAD and RMS systems and potential role in training existing staff. Whitney took the oath of office administered by the mayor and clerk.
Councilwoman Kaylee Padova introduced a joint resolution honoring the Pinnell Christmas Extravaganza on its 50th anniversary, noting the event’s decades-long community tradition and its donation-based admission model. Padova said the show collected 2,819 pounds of food for GRIN this year; Mayor Jadwin praised the tradition and invited honorees to be photographed with council.
The council also recognized the Gahanna Lincoln High School girls cross country team and Coach Ryan Callahan for a state championship and noted academic honors; Brian Metzbauer, a designee from Secretary of State Frank LaRose’s office, offered additional congratulations.
Councilmembers used the ceremonial portion to thank volunteers and youth athletes and to offer holiday wishes before moving to the regular agenda.
