Mayor Jenny Moody and staff highlighted tree removal and honeysuckle clearing that have opened walking vistas at Heritage Park and said public-works crews are using new equipment to chip and clear material. City Manager Scott Bauer confirmed the park work and described visible improvements, saying residents should notice the difference as crews finish the clean-up.
Bauer told the council the city still has about $110,000 in county grant funds available for streetscape work; JMA (consultants) are preparing preliminary intersection designs and rough cost estimates to guide a bid package that could include bump-outs, raised crosswalks and ADA ramp upgrades. He noted county bidding requirements that trigger formal bidding and multiple proposals when projects exceed certain thresholds.
On downtown facades, Bauer reported two of three buildings in a façade-improvement phase are complete, the masonry work at Brotherton’s is nearly finished, and the city received a $250,000 grant from the county to begin the next phase of façade improvements. He said applications from the previous phase remain on file and the city is accepting more business applications for the program with the goal of selecting projects by year-end and beginning work in spring.
Bauer also said he will obtain quotes for options to secure Maple Avenue near a recent incident and that discussions continue with Rumpke on residential service pricing in coordination with Water Works. No formal bidding or contract awards were approved at the meeting.
