Shawnee County approves 2026 insurance contract, county staff say it saves roughly $400,000

At a presentation before the vote, a county presenter identified as Eric said the county saw property-exposure increases of almost 6%, workers' compensation payroll up about 14% and auto exposure up about 6% but that program changes produced a net saving: "a little over $400,000 over prior year," he said. He added the changes did not reduce coverage.
That combination of rising exposures and program improvements prompted commissioners to approve contract C518-2025. Commissioner Kevin Cook moved for approval; Commissioner Bill Rippon seconded, and the motion passed 3 to 0.
