City seeks drainage easement at Sewaney site; board told project likely in 2026

The city requested a drainage easement on a corner of Sewaney Elementary property to accommodate a culvert replacement and roadway adjustments, district operations staff told the board.
Burke Jones, director of operations, described the site and showed the red‑shaded area in the board packet. He explained that during heavy rains the undersized culvert causes water to overrun the road; the proposed project would enlarge the culvert and likely raise the road to allow water to pass without overtopping. Jones said the easement parcel sits in the floodplain and is unlikely to be buildable in the future. The city’s civil engineer reviewed the plan and staff indicated the project is expected in 2026.
Board members asked about timing and disruption; Jones said the city indicated it could wait two weeks for signatures and that the project would be disruptive to the immediate area while work occurs. No immediate action was taken; staff will return with documentation if the board wants to act on signatures.
