Board members received a facilities update on flood damage to Stone Creek Elementary after an outside contractor working on the fire‑sprinkler system broke a 2‑inch water main, district operations staff said.
Burke Jones, director of operations, told the board the break occurred in the boiler room a few weeks before school started and water flowed into hallways and some classrooms before it could be shut off. Jones estimated the cost so far at about $101,260 but cautioned bills may still arrive that change the total. The district must cover a $50,000 deductible, Jones said; the district’s insurer will process the claim and seek recovery (subrogation) from the contractor’s insurer once the investigation and billing are complete.
Board member Kathy pressed staff to confirm the district would pursue recovery; Jones said the insurer indicated it would pursue reimbursement "to get our money back for us." No formal motion was required specifically for the repair; the item appeared as part of the consent agenda and the overall consent agenda later passed 7‑0.
The board requested staff keep trustees apprised as invoices arrive and the subrogation process proceeds.
