The Kansas City, Kansas Board of Public Education completed a number of governance actions on Oct. 14, approving routine appointments and policy readings.
Election of vice president: After ballots were distributed, the board announced that Rachel Russell received four votes and was elected board vice president. Votes were read aloud by the clerk and announced during roll call.
Appointments: Trustees approved a resolution updating the district's designated treasurer and deputy treasurer, appointing Brad Isnard as treasurer and Danita Robinson as deputy treasurer. Board members asked for clarification about prior interim approvals and salary details; staff said those details had been discussed in prior meetings and would be re‑shared.
Policy actions: The board adopted two policies (DFH and ICA) on third read as housekeeping items recommended by the Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB). A group of policies that had second‑read approval at a previous retreat (including GARH, JBCC and JBCD) received board acceptance for second read. Three other policies (acceptable use policy/AUP, student voice, and board community engagement) were accepted for first read.
Procedural notes: Trustees discussed outstanding items and asked counsel to circulate proposed language and redlines where appropriate. The board indicated it would return remaining policy items for further consideration in subsequent meetings.
