Ross Elementary staff and parent volunteers told the board they have raised more than $16,000 for a bespoke "music garden" playground sculpture that, if approved, would be installed and unveiled next spring. Dr. Gardner introduced PTO representative Robin, who described multi‑year fundraising, partnerships with Noto Arts and a donated concrete/foundation contribution from AJ Hopper. "They're going to be able to go out onto this playground when it's installed and unveiled next spring and play on this sculpture," Robin said.
Board members praised the PTO’s fundraising and volunteer base, with several members urging the PTO to invite the board to the unveiling and thanking grandparents and neighborhood volunteers for ongoing support. Board member Schmidt said the project was especially meaningful for students on the city's East Side and encouraged board attendance at the unveiling.
Separately, the Jardine team presented a check to the ALS Association Mid‑America Chapter. A Jardine representative reported a two‑year total of $8,687.42 and noted the event has raised $19,852 over four years. Board members thanked the family and acknowledged the fundraising as a recurring community event.
Both items were placed on the consent agenda for approval; the consent motion also authorized signatures for special project and purchasing contracts.
