Montgomery police awarded grant for six TASER 10 units; board approves purchase

The Montgomery Police Department told trustees Monday it has been awarded a less-lethal device grant that will cover six TASER 10 devices and associated accessories.
Deputy Chief Armando Sanders said the department applied in 2024 and was notified last week that additional funds were available. The award covers six TASER 10 units, holsters, batteries and cartridges and includes online access for tracking and training. Sanders said the six units total $21,600 over five years and would be reimbursed upon receipt. "We received 6 for a total of $21,600 over 5 years," Sanders said.
Staff said the new units will be phased in alongside existing and older models to create a rotating "bank" of devices so not all devices require replacement at once. The purchase was recommended to reduce the budgetary hit of cyclical replacement and to stagger device life cycles.
Trustees voted to approve the purchase on roll call. No budget amendment was required because the purchase is tied to the awarded grant and will be reimbursed.
Next steps: staff will complete procurement and seek reimbursement under the grant terms; devices will be distributed to patrol, investigations and command as operational needs dictate.
