Montgomery board authorizes use of MFT funds to buy winter road salt at CMS pricing

The Village of Montgomery authorized the use of motor fuel tax funds Monday to purchase winter road material (road salt) at the Commission on Material Supplies (CMS) price of $68.99 per ton.
Director Wolf told trustees the village's allocation in the ordering process is 814 tons and that the village can order plus-or-minus 20% as in prior years. "This year we received our pricing from CMS at dollars 68.99 per ton," Wolf said.
Trustees discussed how the price compares with recent years; staff said pricing is roughly $0.40 higher than last year and that the village typically uses about 2,200 tons in a normal winter, with current stock estimated between 2,500 and 3,000 tons. The board approved the resolution by roll call.
The resolution authorizes purchase from CMS using MFT funds for winter operations and preserves the board's established ordering flexibility.
Outcome: motion passed on roll call; staff will proceed with procurement under the authorized MFT allocation.
