San Bernardino County supervisors received a series of departmental updates covering tax-payment options, workforce development, infrastructure projects and public-safety programs.
Partial property tax payments: Ensign Mason, who introduced himself as the county auditor-controller-treasurer-tax collector, said the county is now accepting partial payments on secured property taxes so residents can pay any amount at any time online or in person. He cautioned that partial payments do not stop penalties or interest for missed deadlines and do not prevent a property from becoming eligible for tax sale if payments default. He supplied deadline guidance: the first installment is due Nov. 1 (penalties after Dec. 10) and the second installment is due Feb. 1 (penalties after Apr. 10).
Workforce and CTE pathways: County presenters described tours of high school Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and a partnership that enables students who earn internship certificates to be hired directly by San Bernardino County. Chelsea Ramirez (workforce development coordinator) and others promoted pathways in fields including business, construction, digital media arts and dental services (presenters noted eight fully functional dental units and an infection-control area).
Glen Helen Parkway Bridge Project: Officials outlined a new four-lane bridge across Cajon Wash with multi-use pathways, bike lanes and sidewalks to improve traffic flow and regional park access. The project was described as a $52,200,000 effort funded with federal and regional partners plus a county match.
Animal Care mobile services and fire mitigation: The county described a new Animal Care mobile unit that will provide vaccines, microchipping and licensing in unincorporated communities and at the shelter. Separately, staff explained the Fire Hazard Abatement Program (administered by code enforcement under county fire), seasonal inspections and homeowner actions to create defensible space and reduce wildfire risk.
Other outreach: Staff urged residents to register for the county Telephone Emergency Notification System (TENS) at oes.sbcounty.gov and highlighted the Management and Leadership Academy, an eight-month county leadership program.
Attribution: Quotations and program descriptions are taken from county staff and supervisors speaking at the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors meeting.
