Parks to hire recreation coordinator; amphitheater planning advances

Columbia City Parks staff told the board they have filled the newly defined recreation coordinator position and that job-description changes will realign duties in time for the busy season.
Staff said they extended an offer last Friday and that the candidate accepted; the new recreation coordinator will start Jan. 5 after HR onboarding and will immediately assume program responsibilities. "From what I understand, the person accepted. So they will be, starting, January 5," staff said. As part of the reorganization, Andrea will take responsibility for concessions and events and Melinda will supervise recreation and events; one maintenance position remains open.
Separately, staff reported the department has begun looking at contractors for an amphitheater project and that members should expect more discussion and planning in future meetings as proposals and contractor information are developed.
Board members praised the advance planning and noted the department’s efforts to prepare staffing and job descriptions before peak summer operations that expand seasonal staff from roughly nine to about 50 people.
