County IT committee approves reallocation to buy storage area network

The Technology & Communications Committee approved a revenue-neutral reallocation in the capital improvement program to purchase a storage area network, consolidating county file servers currently housed in Glendale and the county building.
The Schenectady County Technology & Communications Committee approved reporting a capital improvement amendment to acquire a storage area network (a consolidated file-server array) using reallocated funds.
CIO Gabriel Benitez explained the plan is revenue neutral and described the storage array as the county’s primary location for file servers and saved data. Benitez said the purchase would replace existing equipment currently housed in two locations, including Glendale and the county building, and would allow future migration and environment upgrades. "Storage array is where everybody keeps their file servers," Benitez said.
Committee members thanked staff for what one legislator called "smart management" of IT infrastructure. A motion to report the capital project amendment to the legislative agenda was approved by voice vote.
Procurement and migration details are expected to be managed by the CIO and county purchasing staff; the county packet contains the capital amendment and project justification.
