Student representatives and staff recognized at East Hartford Board meeting

At its Dec. 15 meeting the East Hartford Board of Education heard reports from student representative Haseen (East Hartford High School) about recent school activities and fundraisers and recognized staff for classroom leadership.
Haseen said the district’s November food drive raised more than 350 food items; the freshman class donated the most and earned a $100 deposit to their class account. The district’s book drive collected more than 600 books, and a Breakfast with Santa event sold more than 70 tickets. Haseen also noted recent AP recognition for juniors and seniors who passed AP exams and previewed upcoming concerts and athletic events.
Superintendent Thomas Anderson and board members spotlighted staff achievements. Rachel Pipke, an eighth‑grade science teacher at Sunset Ridge Middle School, was recognized for her work in hands‑on science and IB curriculum alignment. Gabrielle "Gabby" Elwood, a speech‑language pathologist at Goodwin, described small‑group and one‑to‑one support and her involvement in school events.
The board thanked students and staff for their service over the year and wished the community a safe holiday break.
