Safety Harbor approves private stormwater grants, accepts $65,702 in donations and greenlights community events

The Safety Harbor City Commission approved a set of environmental and community funding and event items during its Dec. 15 meeting.
Public Works Director Renee Cooper briefed the commission on the private stormwater improvement grant program (established by Resolution 2025‑17). The program reimburses up to 50% of project costs for eligible private stormwater improvements, with individual caps of $25,000 and higher caps for multiple property owners or HOAs. Two completed projects were recommended for reimbursement this round, and several additional projects are in design or permitting; commissioners praised the program as a first step in addressing local erosion and flooding concerns.
Finance staff presented restricted donations totaling $65,702.43, earmarked for leisure‑services scholarships and Folly Farm animal care; the commission accepted the donations and staff outlined the budget‑amendment process to record revenue and restricted expense codes.
Staff also recommended and the commission approved special‑event applications: the ALS Association’s Walk at Waterfront Park (April 25, 2026) and the American Legion Auxiliary’s Fourth of July parade (July 4, 2026) along Main Street, including a fee waiver for the July 4 event not to exceed $7,750. Organizers will coordinate final site plans and parking with staff and law enforcement.
