Safety Harbor swears in two firefighter‑EMTs, names Captain Zemansky firefighter of the year

The Safety Harbor City Commission on Monday swore in two firefighter‑EMTs and honored members of the fire department for service and leadership.
Fire Chief Andrew Hawkins introduced firefighter‑EMTs Zach Blanken and Christopher Conklin, both hired in December 2024 and recently completing their probationary period. The commission administered the oath to uphold the constitutions of the United States and the state of Florida and the city charter.
Hawkins also presented Captain Paramedic Dan Zemansky as the department’s 2025 Firefighter of the Year, citing his leadership on complex incidents, commitment to training and mentoring, and steady command presence. The commission additionally recognized Captain Charles Russell for 20 years of service and presented him a plaque.
The awards and swearing‑in were presented during the commission’s regular meeting; the honorees and their families were invited forward for photographs and remarks.
