Wooster High adds elective options, moves robotics extracurricular to expand access

Margaret Davis, principal at Wooster High School, reviewed proposed changes to the 2026 course selection guide, telling the board the English, math and social studies departments identified gaps and asked to add options geared toward students not seeking accelerated AP/CCP tracks. "English decided to add a course called fantasy and science fiction," Davis said.
Other additions include a functions and mathematical modeling course in math, a geography course and a pre-AP world history/geography bridge in social studies, and an economics course (a department survey showed about 80 students expressed interest). Music is adding a show-choir offering and digital electronics will be added. Davis said the engineering program will move robotics to an extracurricular model, and the district will remove several courses tied to the co‑curricular robotics pathway—Advanced Robotics and Computer Integrated Manufacturing—and an IT Troubleshooting course that had not run because of low enrollment.
Board members asked about enrollment thresholds. Davis said the district generally looks for about 12 students as a planning target and treats 15 as a guarantee, adding staff try to honor courses once they become part of the schedule even if some students later drop.
The course changes will be reflected in the course selection guide that will be rolled out to students; board members welcomed the additional options while noting the risk of mid-season drops.
