The Davenport Community School District board voted to call a special election for March 3, 2026, to ask voters to renew a 10-year physical plant and equipment property tax levy capped at $1.34 per $1,000 of assessed value.
Director Barnes moved the board approve a resolution calling the election and read the resolution’s provisions aloud. "Recommend that the board approve the following resolution calling for a special election on 03/03/2026 to approve a renewal of the physical plant and equipment levy for 10 years commencing 07/01/2029 through 06/30/2039," Barnes said while reciting the measure’s authorized purposes, which include purchasing and improving grounds, constructing or repairing school buildings, acquiring libraries, and purchasing transportation equipment and technology.
The resolution names Scott County as the controlling county for the election and directs the secretary to file the public measure with the Scott County Commissioner of Elections at least 46 days before the election. The measure also directs county commissioners to make publication of the notice of election at least once not fewer than four days nor more than 20 days before the election, in accordance with Iowa Code section 49.532, and describes other administrative steps required under Iowa Code chapter 47.
Director Hayes seconded the motion. In a roll-call vote, Director Barnes, Director Hayes and Director Beck were recorded as voting "yes," and the presiding officer also recorded a "yes." The presiding official declared the motion carried.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved the consent agenda — consisting of personnel items — by voice vote. After taking action on the levy resolution the board moved to adjourn.
The board directed the secretary to file a certified copy of the resolution with the county commissioner of elections and otherwise cooperate with the commissioners of elections to prepare ballots and registers. No other substantive items were discussed before adjournment.
