Cape Coral Youth Council reports projects, council approves donated 'Love Locks' sculpture

Cape Coral — Members of the Cape Coral Youth Council presented a quarterly report to the City Council on Dec. 10, describing outreach projects, fundraising and a planned public-art installation.
Lexi Skorzak, chair of the Youth Council, introduced members and summarized current work: a senior-year mental-health survey distributed to six local high schools (collection expected through Dec. 21) whose results the Youth Council intends to share with city and school leaders; a junior project exploring a Valentine’s Day movie-in-the-park event (pending approvals); and a "Hope for the Holidays" toy drive collecting donations for children ages 5–12 through Dec. 20. Skorzak reported the Youth Council had raised $14,000 toward a $20,000 goal to attend the National League of Cities Congressional City Conference in Washington, D.C.
In a separate consent-item presentation, council approved resolution 371-25 to accept a donated "Love Locks" sculpture (a two-heart metal structure) and placement at Cultural Park; the welder who will donate materials and labor (named by the Youth Council presenter) and the city manager’s office donated the concrete slab needed for installation. Council moved and passed the resolution by roll-call vote.
Council members thanked the Youth Council for outreach and volunteer efforts and encouraged continued community participation and fundraising.
