The Weston Public Schools communications committee on Dec. 5 agreed to create a single, public-facing facilities landing page and a workflow for short, plain-language summaries of ongoing facilities work — including feasibility studies and meeting outcomes — to help residents understand the district's school-construction options.
Committee members said residents searching for information about the middle-school work are often confused because materials are scattered across multiple pages and older links still point to legacy locations. "This is not about the middle school. It's about the facilities as a whole," one member said during the meeting as participants emphasized the need for a landing page labeled broadly (for example, "Facilities") with clear tabs for studies, budgeting, drawings and meeting materials.
Why it matters: the district expects sustained public interest as facilities planning advances; members argued that a centralized repository and regular, digestible updates would improve participation in public comment and produce better-informed feedback. Nicole Wallach volunteered to serve as a liaison and draft concise "CliffNotes" summaries after attending EOC and facilities meetings. The committee recommended building a landing page that links to key historic reports (including the 2017 Silver Petrocelli feasibility study on the town site), meeting recordings and agendas.
How it will work: Nicole will attend EOC meetings (the next meeting was scheduled for Dec. 19) and assemble brief summaries of key developments; the communications committee will reserve a standing 10–15 minute agenda item to review drafts and then forward finalized copy to the superintendent update and other district distribution channels. Erica offered to help reorganize the landing page so top-line tabs (studies, budgeting, conceptual drawings, meetings) appear prominently and avoid duplicative menu items that could confuse residents.
Next steps: staff and volunteers will pilot the liaison/CliffNotes workflow, Dan will implement the agreed landing-page layout changes if feasible, and the committee will reassess whether standalone district-wide updates are required to increase public awareness.
