Council approves amendment to house Lee County EMS transport at Fire Station 13

Council voted to approve Ordinance 62-25, an amendment to the interlocal agreement with Lee County to add a Lee County transportation (ambulance) unit at Fire Station 13.
Mike Russell, fire chief, told the council the addition is an operational improvement because Station 13 sits near busy Del Prado and Pylon Road and adding an ambulance will enhance transportation services for the area. The public hearing was opened and, with no members of the public speaking on the item, the council approved the amendment by roll call (8 ayes).
Mayor Gunter and other council members praised the increase in EMS coverage and noted the city’s earlier collaboration with county EMS to house transport units inside city fire stations. The ordinance does not change staffing relationships with Lee County; it authorizes the mayor to execute the amendment to the interlocal agreement.
