At its meeting the Ravenna City Board of Education approved a series of routine and standalone items in a set of roll-call votes.
Consent agenda items 11a126#8211;4 were approved to ratify the Oct. 20 business meeting minutes, accept gifts and donations, accept the October financial reports, and authorize then-and-now payments. The board also approved a resolution to place a renewal tax in excess of the 10-mill limitation on the ballot for Reed Memorial Library; the board noted Reed Memorial Library is not part of the Portage County Library System and that Ravenna acts as sponsor/pass-through for its levies.
The board approved two policy updates on second reading: Policy 4162.01 concerning drug and alcohol testing procedures for non-CDL employee drivers and Policy 6320 revising purchasing and bidding processes to align administrative titles and procedures. The board also approved athletic worker rates for playoff events, a purchase-of-service agreement with Southeast Schools for English-as-a-second-language tutoring services (Laura Miller to work four days in Ravenna), and an indoor track-and-field club to be run by volunteer coaches.
Personnel actions: the board approved multiple personnel consent items including extended workday stipends at a prorated rate of $30, appointment of Antonio Pereira as translator as needed, after-school tutors at $30 per hour, an unpaid leave for Aliyah Denay, hiring Laura Miller as ELL tutor effective Nov. 17, and employment of Lisa Chrislip for home instruction. The board accepted the resignation of cheer advisor Donald Stahl and appointed Cami Aras as head cheer advisor for the remainder of the season; it approved volunteers James Pascara (girls bowling) and Shane Michael (wrestling) and listed substitute hires. Stand-alone stipend approvals for Lauren Calhoun, Andre and Carrie Denison (Denison abstained on that item), and Amy Seaman were also approved.
A 2025 Ford Transit van purchase for special education transportation was authorized to replace a vehicle lost in a wreck.
All listed motions were moved, seconded and carried in roll-call votes during the meeting. Where an abstention was recorded (Missus Dennison on one stipend item), the board still carried the motion.
