Cornwall Central presents comprehensive counseling plan, credits DBT for attendance gains and expands AP/CTE pathways

Joe DeBolt, the district's director of guidance, presented the Cornwall Central School District's comprehensive school counseling plan at a board meeting, describing a K'12 program that combines academic advising, college-and-career guidance and social-emotional learning.
DeBolt said the district has completed three years of dialectical behavior techniques (DBT) lessons delivered across grades and attributed recent attendance improvements to that multi-tiered support. "We're basically in year 3 of this," DeBolt said, and cited quarter-to-quarter reductions in the number of students with five or more absences: "CCHS had 151 students in the first quarter with five or more absences; that is down to 123," he said, and offered similar figures for the middle and elementary schools.
