City Manager Scott Collins told the council Dec. 30 that Bridge Bedford, a new 501(c)(3) community organization, has requested municipal sponsorship for the Connected Community 5K. Collins said the city sponsored the event at the $5,000 level last year and that organizers are pursuing presenting-partner sponsorships at $10,000 for 2026; he added he had not yet confirmed whether the county will contribute $10,000 as a presenting partner.
Collins noted the event typically charges a participation fee (around $37–$38 last year) and that the 2026 date being discussed is May 9 (the Saturday before Mother's Day). The council agreed to study the request and did not take a vote at the study session.
