Pocomoke High outlines personalized pathways; school reports strong ESSA completion

School leaders from Pocomoke High School told the board their approach centers on data-driven, personalized pathways to improve postsecondary outcomes. Dr. Jennifer Raine said the school back-maps schedules to student goals, encourages dual enrollment and CTE participation, and uses a data tracker to monitor progress and adjust supports.
Dr. Raine reported that, to date, 96.8% of seniors have met the school’s ESSA-completion benchmarks, an increase from last year. Presenters described freshman-on-track monitoring (four credits in five content areas by the end of ninth grade), chronic absenteeism monitoring and frequent progress meetings that generate individualized plans for students who are off-track.
Board members and Superintendent Wallace praised the operational systems supporting student success and congratulated the Pocomoke team. Presenters said the systems begin in ninth grade, are tracked quarterly and after assessments, and include one-minute check-ins during instructional time to address barriers to attendance and engagement.
Next steps: presenters will continue monitoring and refining the tracker; board members encouraged replication of effective practices across the district.
