Council swears in a volunteer firefighter, hears public comments and proclaims Arbor Day

During public comment residents raised planning and park concerns. Darren Fisher, identifying himself and his address, said the planning commission had questions about wastewater capacity allocation and welcomed more public discussion when the council takes that up. Carla Fisher and other community members offered appreciation for outgoing councilors. Linda Miller described two incidents at Riverside Park where large discs were being thrown near water and pedestrian areas and asked for more public process, signage and safety consideration.
Mayor Barnhart read an Arbor Day proclamation, declaring 05/01/2026 Arbor Day in Columbia Falls and noting the city’s long‑standing Tree City USA status and upcoming participation by schoolchildren in planting events.
Councilors and staff acknowledged the public comments and asked staff to follow up where appropriate.
