Grass Valley council proclaims Wreaths Across America Day and highlights Nevada County Toy Run and Cornish Christmas events

The Grass Valley City Council on a December meeting read proclamations recognizing National Wreaths Across America Day and the Nevada County Food and Toy Run and heard an invitation to the Cornish Christmas celebration.

The council proclaimed Dec. 13, 2025 as National Wreaths Across America Day and announced a local ceremony at Saint Patrick's Cemetery at 12:00 p.m., where wreaths will be placed following the ceremony.

Eric Oliver, president of the Nevada County Toy Run, told the council the event will escort about 1,500 motorcyclists from the Eric Rood Center through Nevada City and Grass Valley to the Nevada County Fairgrounds on Dec. 13. Oliver said the run typically raises about $30,000 annually, expects between 600 and 700 families to receive meals and toys this year, and plans a day-before fundraiser and donation drop-off at the fairgrounds to broaden participation beyond motorcyclists. "We're trying to get these kids out doing stuff, keep them out of trouble," Oliver said.

Robin Galvin Davies, executive director of the Greater Grass Valley Chamber and Grass Valley Downtown Association, invited residents to the 57th Cornish Christmas on Friday, Dec. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. in downtown Grass Valley and said the event provides economic benefits to vendors and local businesses.

Why this matters: the proclamations and presentations identify community-run holiday events that the city recognizes and that rely on coordination with public safety and public works, and they outline volunteer and funding needs for large volunteer-driven events.

The council did not take action on these proclamations beyond recognition; the items were presented and will proceed as scheduled unless public notice indicates otherwise.
