Hudson presents state report-card results: district score 77, several schools exceed expectations

Shannon, a district staff presenter, told the Hudson School District board that the district’s most recent state report cards produced an overall score of 77, which she said "exceeds expectations." She said five schools were in the 'significantly exceeding expectations' category and three schools were 'exceeding expectations.'

Shannon explained the state updated its scoring formula this year, limiting apples-to-apples comparisons in some priority areas over time. "If you dig in a little deeper, there's a cheat sheet for you," she said, referring to supplemental materials linked in the district’s presentation. She said the report cards are used to reaffirm or adjust district action plans and that the district is continuing work started over the summer.

The presentation listed program improvements and resource rollouts: a new geometry and Algebra II resource at secondary grades and a K–2 ELA resource being implemented (district staff called these 'resources' akin to textbooks). School staff are maintaining focus on academic intervention and refining personalized reading plans at the elementary level. Board members asked for clarification about proficiency versus percentile rankings; Shannon and other staff explained proficiency thresholds are set by state definitions and percentiles indicate relative ranking across the state.

Board members also asked about the Hudson virtual charter school's reporting and about the continued use of the online tutoring service (tutor.com); staff said the virtual charter's small full-time enrollment limits how some metrics are reported and that tutor.com usage continues to grow.

The district said it will continue implementing identified supports, monitor subgroup gaps and report results as the district refines interventions.
