Prescott Valley public works officials say state supplemental funding will allow the Glassford Hill Road expansion to add a third northbound and southbound lane from State Route 89A to Long Look, plus sidewalks and multi-use paths; construction is planned to begin after the new year.
Prescott Valley plans to expand Glassford Hill Road by adding a third travel lane in each direction and building sidewalks and multi-use paths on both sides, town Public Works Director Heather Reuter said on the PV in Focus podcast. The town secured supplemental state funding to move the project into construction following a year of design work.
"We're able to improve the capacity by adding a third lane northbound and southbound from SR 89A all the way down to Long Look," Reuter said, noting the design phase took about a year and that officials hope to start construction after the new year. She said the work is intended to improve traffic flow and safety.
The project will include sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides of the road to enhance multimodal access. "What I really love about this project is the sidewalks and multi use pathway on both sides of the roadway," the host said; Reuter agreed that the multimodal elements will make travel safer for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Reuter said project managers refined the design to minimize disruption during construction but cautioned that travel impacts are inevitable. The town emphasized coordination and communications to reduce inconvenience for drivers and residents during the construction period.
Next steps include finalizing construction schedules, securing any remaining permits and coordinating traffic-management plans. Town officials said they will share scheduling and detour information with the public before work begins.
