Wellington trustees adopt $36.8 million FY2026 budget, levy 12.439 mills

The Wellington Town Board of Trustees adopted the fiscal year 2026 budget on Nov. 18, approving a $36.8 million spending plan and a 12.439 mill property tax levy.
Town Administrator Patty Garcia and Finance Director Nick Redavid presented the budget to trustees, outlining projected revenues of approximately $28,000,000 and combined funds available of about $64,000,000. Redavid said the town plans to invest roughly $15,500,000 in capital projects next year and that conservative budgeting was used to ensure fund-balance requirements are met while municipal utility rates are under study.
The presentation included adjustments tied to the town udit. Redavid reported loan proceeds of $3,300,000 that were recorded by auditors as accrued to 2023 and incorporated into prior unaudited financials; he told the board testing is continuing and the audit is expected to be completed by late November or early December.
Trustees moved and voted by roll call to adopt Resolution No. 50-2025, which summarizes expenditures and revenues and adopts the FY2026 budget; to approve Resolution No. 51-2025, which levies property taxes for the year 2025 to fund FY2026; and to enact Ordinance No. 16-2025, which appropriates the sums adopted in the budget. Redavid said the levy of 12.439 mills applied to an estimated assessed valuation of $176,300,000, which he estimated would generate roughly $2,200,000 in property-tax revenue for the town.
The board praised staff for the budget work. The trustees asked clarifying questions about the mill levy (confirmed unchanged from the prior year) and the status of the financial statement audit. Mayor and trustees indicated support before each roll-call approval; all motions passed.
The town will post the adopted budget and the budget book on its website and submit materials for the Government Finance Officers Association istinguished budget presentation award consideration.
