Town staff presented early ideas Dec. 4 to reimagine the Prescott Valley fairgrounds and to issue a request for proposals (RFP) for operators.
Josh Newsome and other staff said the town will preserve some existing amenities — including a BMX track and an RC track — and is exploring options to move the parks maintenance operation to the south end of the property to create space for community recreation and material storage. Staff reported a well-attended community meeting (about 80 participants) and a student survey of more than 300 Bradshaw Mountain High School students, both indicating interest in fitness, weightlifting and court sports.
"We had about 80 participants in that meeting and we did a survey during that time," staff said, noting the top priorities from the community and student responses.
Staff said the work is in an early stage: the cleanup of the existing Wheelhouse building is underway and an RFP is in process, with a presentation to council expected mid-to-late January for RFP approval. The goal cited by staff is to attract an operator or partner that can run programming without causing ongoing operating costs for the town.
Council members asked for clarity about code compliance, timing and safety during transition work; staff said they have already addressed immediate safety and building-code issues and will continue to coordinate with the building official. No formal council action was taken; staff will return with the RFP and more detailed proposals.
