The North Bend City Council voted to authorize the mayor to execute a lease with the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) for the city’s former CED annex building.
Miss Escobar (staff) told the council the renewed lease begins Jan. 1, 2026, and ends Dec. 31, 2026, and reflects a 5% increase over the prior year, taking rent from $16,000 to $16,800 annually. She added that the city currently pays about $533 a month for utilities, janitorial and outdoor maintenance for the building and that those costs are covered by the rent. "The lease before you begins 01/01/2026 and ends 12/31/2026," Escobar said during her report.
Escobar said DFW will share the building with the King County Sheriff’s Office, and that once the sheriff’s office occupies the space, utilities cost-sharing would be evaluated and negotiated. She also explained earlier items triggered rework because DFW prefered an annual lease (rather than month-to-month) and staff corrected a lease excise tax issue that reduced the rent by roughly $179 compared with a previous draft.
Council discussion was limited to clarifying questions about lease length and cost-sharing. Councilmember Alan Gotthoff said he was pleased the long-running item moved forward and hoped the arrangement would last beyond annual renewals.
The council approved AB 25-133 authorizing the mayor to execute and administer the lease in a form approved by the city attorney; the motion passed unanimously.
