Commission discusses East Division Street repairs after grant denials and $3 million estimate

"We've been sitting here for the last 3 years ... some of these people were getting really, really ... they're tired of sitting on their hands," Speaker 6 said, urging a comprehensive fix.
Speaker 2 and others said the county applied for two grants and were turned down. "We were turned down on both of them," Speaker 2 said. Commissioners discussed options including joint applications with nearby cities, and Speaker 1 said Collier estimated it would take about $3,000,000 to repair four particularly bad spots.
"It takes about 3,000,000 to do that," Speaker 1 said, and commissioners noted the county has been setting aside funds and intends to continue reserving revenue to support major repairs while pursuing grant opportunities.
The commission also recorded routine business including a report that the county completed 29.46 miles of paving this year. Separately, the board approved moving its January meeting to Jan. 8 to accommodate the holiday schedule.
