Road commission approves naming Spring Creek bridge after public request
Summary
After a public comment asking whether a bridge would be named for Ray Fleming, commissioners approved a motion to name the Spring Creek bridge and said they will forward a resolution to the county commission and the state for final approval.
During public comment at the Dec. 4 meeting, Speaker 5 asked whether the previously discussed naming for Ray Fleming had been finalized. Staff replied they had met with the family and identified options and that the commission intended to pass the naming resolution and forward it to the county commission and state offices for formal approval.
"They give us a couple of options ... the one that they would like to do," Speaker 1 said, describing the family's involvement and the plan to send a resolution on to Senator Poteet's office and the county commission.
Later in the meeting the commission moved and voted to approve naming the Spring Creek bridge; Speaker 3 initiated the motion and Speaker 1 seconded. The commission recorded the vote as 'Aye' and staff said they would add the requested name to the resolution and provide county- and state-level routing for formal acceptance.
The naming will require county-commission and state approval before it is final, staff said; the road commission's vote initiates the local resolution process but does not itself finalize state-owned route name changes.
