"I think Northland does a tremendous job. Staff is constantly putting out creative programs and events," she said, adding that her background would support fundraising and outreach.
Tom Smithyman (Speaker 14), a Franklin Park resident and former journalist, described using Northland's services during recovery from a serious car accident and said longer hours and reviewing the regional funding formula could be priorities. "I think it's something that that's gotta be studied more," he said of the funding formula that determines municipal contributions.
Councilors praised both candidates. Several members expressed support for Megan's fresh perspective and Tom's institutional knowledge; one councilor said they were "leaning toward" Megan while another favored Tom. No formal vote or appointment occurred at the meeting; the clerk will schedule confirmation or further action at the January work session, and staff noted other vacancies and applications that will be considered.
