Student services briefed the committee on program growth and transition supports for students with disabilities.
Highlights: the district will open its 10th preschool classroom in January (AM and PM sessions) and currently has 11 peer applicants on the waiting list. For secondary transition planning, staff described partnerships that expand post‑secondary and vocational options for students on IEPs: participation at 4Cs in the Massachusetts Inclusive Higher Education Program, a paralegal assistant training placement at the courthouse for students with autism, community work experiences (service center, library, Meals on Wheels), and a mobile dental program providing in‑school cleanings and limited treatments. The district is also implementing the I Decide substance‑use prevention curriculum in partnership with Duffy Health Center.
Student services said these programs aim to increase independence and vocational skills for students who may not pursue a traditional diploma and that early results and feedback have been positive.
