Superintendent: Central School project on track for September 2028 move-in; MSBA removes roof from accelerated-repair program

The East Bridgewater superintendent updated the School Committee on Dec. 16 that the Central School building project is progressing and that district leaders remain on track for a September 2028 move‑in date.
The district’s owner’s project manager has merged with a larger firm; the superintendent said the new arrangement includes assurances that the original project team will remain in place and that additional resources may be available under the larger organization. Bids produced 10 applicants, one withdrew, and nine firms will be interviewed by a subcommittee in January with a recommendation expected soon.
Site surveying and quarry checks have begun, and the superintendent said softball fields will be taken over for the project on March 1, with coordination planned so town and high‑school athletics are not unduly disrupted. “September 2028 is our move in date,” the superintendent told the committee.
On separate facilities business, the superintendent reported that the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) has approved the district’s request to remove the roof project from the Accelerated Repair Program after the feasibility study found most of the roof did not meet MSBA’s 25‑year eligibility threshold. The district notified MSBA by letter on Dec. 9 and received official signoff.
Next steps include the January interviews, continued site preparation and ongoing communication with athletic staff and town departments to minimize impacts on spring sports and community activities.
