Grosse Pointe Farms council approves Shelfont pump station site plan, accepts clean audit and authorizes bond notice

GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Mich. — The Grosse Pointe Farms City Council on Dec. 8 received an unmodified audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025, approved a key site plan for the sewer separation program and took several land‑use and financing actions.

Plant Moran presented the year‑end audit and comprehensive financial report, telling the council the city received a clean, unmodified opinion and recorded no audit findings in the current year. The auditor said the firm is finalizing a separate federal compliance (single‑audit) report delayed by the federal compliance supplement. According to staff, the audit included testing of roughly $1.4 million in FEMA grant funds and found those expenditures in compliance with the award terms.

Councilmember Wood, chair of the budget committee, summarized operating results: general fund revenue of about $20.1 million, a net increase in fund balance of roughly $336,000 and an unassigned fund balance near $5.4 million (about 26.7% of the expenditure budget). Wood highlighted more than $10 million in capital spending in 2025 for vehicles, public works equipment and park work, and said the city’s strong finances underpin a favorable bond rating that reduces borrowing costs.
