Lee County board approves 2026 budget and levy, adopts routine resolutions

The Lee County Board on Nov. 17 adopted the county’s 2026 budget and approved the 2026 levy after roll-call votes, carrying both measures and completing the fiscal items on the agenda.
The board’s finance chair presented the budget and said the county included a change to how health insurance premiums are treated for IMRF reporting. The change, intended to avoid reducing employees’ reportable wages for retirement purposes, was estimated to increase county costs by roughly $3,000 per month and was built into the budget, the finance director said.
The levy ordinance passed by roll call. The board recorded one dissenting vote from Coppin on the levy; the rest of the members voting answered in the affirmative. The budget ordinance was approved by roll call as presented.
In the same meeting the board approved a motor fuel tax appropriation resolution (moved by Wilson; seconded by Acree) and adopted several 2026 meeting-date resolutions for the zoning hearing officer, the Regional Planning Commission and the county board schedule. The board also approved housekeeping budget adjustments for the state’s attorney and the circuit clerk (grant-related transfers), and reappointed Thomas Menzel and Luke Veil to the Compton Community Fire District Board of Trustees.
County officers’ reports, the monthly revenue report and claims paid were approved, and the board authorized mileage and per diem for members for the evening. Chair and staff noted no executive session was required and adjourned the meeting; members were wished a happy Thanksgiving.
What’s next: Budget and levy ordinances take effect according to county procedures; staff will implement the IMRF/health-insurance reporting change as outlined during the finance committee discussion.
