CRA approves $1.26 million for Beach Street Complete Streets retrofit

The resolution, moved by Commissioner May and seconded by Commissioner Reid, was presented as an investment in the downtown redevelopment area. During public comment, John Nelson of 413 North Granbury Avenue urged commissioners to maintain a consistent design and to address known drainage problems at the Main Street bridge, saying, "I thought it was going to look like the original Beach Street ... It's a big deep dish so that whenever you come over the bridge and it rains, you're, like, 3 feet underwater." Nelson asked the commission not to end up with a new roadway that leaves a low spot unaddressed.
Responding to the public speaker and staff materials, the agency discussed design continuity but did not delay the vote. The motion passed on a voice vote, recorded in discussion as 6–0.
The project will be paid from tax-increment funds in the downtown community redevelopment area trust fund and is scheduled to move forward with construction and inspection phases under the resolution approved by the CRA. The commission did not add additional conditions or amendments during the vote.
The CRA meeting then moved on to other redevelopment items; staff and commissioners said project details and diagrams are available in the meeting backup materials.
