Lincoln awarded $411,710 Route 66 grant for museum renovation, signage and public art

Mr. McCoy told the council Dec. 9 that the city received the full municipal portion of a Route 66 centennial grant: $411,710 of a $465,006.95 total request. He said the funds will pay for museum renovation/purchase costs, murals, signage to standardize Route 66 wayfinding, two additional watermelon benches and a 12‑foot Lincoln penny sculpture to mark the centennial.
“The entire ask of the entire grant was $465,006.95. So $411.07 is the city's portion and 50 just shy of 54 is the bureau,” Mr. McCoy said, describing the split with the county tourism bureau. He said expenditures will move quickly — with much of the program targeted to be ready for the Route 66 season beginning May 1 — and that the city will follow the CVB reimbursement timetable, submitting expenditures through the quarterly reporting process.
Council thanked Mr. McCoy for the work with the Logan County tourism bureau and noted swift implementation is expected; Mr. McCoy said some reimbursements will be retroactive to July 1 for eligible costs and that the CVB will process reimbursement after receiving quarterly reports.
