Several residents used the appearance‑of‑citizens portion of the meeting to press the county commission on separate but related land‑use concerns: a proposed wedding venue at "Fiddling Fish Coves" that would bring dozens of vehicles onto a narrow, unguarded road, and heavy‑industrial activity at a former local business site that neighbors say operates like light industrial in a residential/agricultural area.
Buddy Bumpas told the commission a proposed pavilion and wedding venue on Lot 24 would host roughly 70 attendees plus vendors on a route he described as a “20 miles per hour is only 1 way in and 1 way out” road with no guardrails, and said the traffic would threaten neighborhood safety.
Neighbors David Moore and Randall Robinson raised a separate complaint about a site on Cole Road (identified in comments as the former Nicholson/"nickel sign company") where they say heavy drilling rigs, semis and parked equipment create safety hazards, damage the roadway and do not meet the C‑2 business definitions they read. Robinson urged commissioners to visit the site and noted the Board of Zoning Appeals and regional planning processes as potential avenues.
James Lance said a national drilling company adjoining his family farm is using local roads designed for residential and agricultural traffic, stopping traffic for loading and unloading, and that additional acreage purchases by the company would further disrupt the neighborhood. He asked the commission to oppose rezoning additional acreage to commercial or industrial.
County staff and commissioners advised neighbors that the Board of Zoning Appeals and the regional planning commission are typical venues for appeals or zoning enforcement and noted that regional/planning calendars were postponed until January, which could delay formal review. The commission did not take immediate enforcement action during the meeting; affected residents were directed to pursue BZA review and staff follow‑up.
