Council directs law director to draft resolution opposing proposed Enbridge distribution increase

Council member Kim Ulner raised a letter the village received from Enbridge on Nov. 26 notifying customers of a proposed $7.60 per month distribution increase, which Ulner described as approximately an 8.8% rise in distribution charges. Ulner asked the council to send a letter to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) expressing the village's opposition and to make the Enbridge notice available to the public.
Council debated whether a resolution or letter was most appropriate and whether it should be prepared quickly given PUCO's timeline. One council member noted the filing could be imminent; another observed PUCO can move slowly. The council voted to have the law director draft a resolution or letter opposing the increase and to prepare the text quickly so it could be adopted and filed in advance of PUCO action. Staff were also asked to publish the Enbridge letter and PUCO contact information on the village website so residents can comment directly.
Council did not adopt a final resolution at the meeting but recorded a motion to draft and prepare a resolution for early consideration.
