Council approves grant‑funded EV charging sites, pension plan contract and loan amendment

At the Dec. 9 meeting the Newman City Council approved several routine and grant‑funded items in the consent portion of the agenda.
The council awarded a contract for administration of the city’s 401(k) defined contribution and 457(b) deferred compensation plans after a staff recommendation and an uncontested motion and second.
Council also approved acceptance of a bid to install level‑2 electric‑vehicle charging pedestals funded through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. Mr. Moody explained the chargers will be free for public use and the city will cover ongoing electricity costs; Newton/Newnan Utilities will perform construction and installation work. Staff said roughly $76,000 of grant funds are available for the installations and pedestals will be placed at City Hall, the pickleball complex, the utilities facility/training center and CJ Smith Park.
Separately, council approved a second amendment to an intergovernmental agreement with the Newnan Urban Redevelopment Agency to forgive the remaining loan balance on 100 East Washington, formalizing action the council took in November.
All three items were approved by voice vote with no recorded roll‑call dissent in the transcript.
