The Soledad City Council on Dec. 17 authorized the mayor to sign a response letter to the 2024–25 Monterey County civil grand jury report titled "Road Safety in Monterey County: Where to Report a Problem."
City Manager Megan explained the grand jury found that reporting apps were little known and recommended jurisdictions promote reporting tools. Megan said Soledad previously used a third‑party mobile app (GoGov) at roughly $12,000 per year and received about 12–13 reports, then discontinued the service for cost reasons and shifted to a prominently posted web‑based report‑an‑issue platform that has produced 55 reports this year. The city will include evidence of the web tool’s placement on the city website, social media promotion and its ongoing safe‑streets investments (Safe Routes to Schools, HSIP projects and Vision Zero) in the written response.
Council asked staff to explicitly include Vision Zero work and local project references in the letter; the council unanimously authorized the mayor to sign the response with that addition. Staff said the letter and supporting documentation — the GoGov invoice, the website evidence and social media posts — will be posted to the city website.
