The Newman City Council on Nov. 25 approved a street-closure request to hold the Newnan Porch Fest in the College Temple historic district on May 30, 2026.
Organizer Melody Kaiser described the inaugural event (May 31, 2025) as hosting about 48 bands, over 100 vendors and an estimated 10,000 attendees across venue locations in the College Temple neighborhood. Kaiser said the event raised $5,000 for the Coweta History Center, generated a favorable post-event survey score (4.82 out of 5 across 125 survey responses), and that organizers are coordinating with the Newnan Police Department and city staff to address trash, restroom capacity and pedestrian safety concerns for the 2026 event.
Council members asked whether neighbors had been notified; Kaiser said organizers completed door-to-door outreach the prior week and provided flyers with a contact number and email. A council motion to accept the request passed by voice vote.
Next steps: Event organizers and city staff will finalize street-closure logistics and public-safety plans ahead of the May 30, 2026 event.
