The Newman City Council on Nov. 25 approved a contract award for roadway improvements on Wood Lane Drive to Piedmont Paving Inc., the lowest responsive bidder, for $295,300.70.
Michael Clark, the city's Director of Engineering, told the council the project includes curb-and-gutter construction, pavement resurfacing and storm drainage system improvements. Staff advertised the project for bid; Piedmont Paving submitted the lowest responsive bid and staff recommended award to that firm.
A councilmember moved to approve; the motion was seconded and passed on a voice vote. The contract award authorizes staff to proceed with final contracting and permitting steps.
Next steps: The Engineering Department will execute the contract and schedule construction; specific start and completion dates were not specified at the meeting.
