Mohave County public lands commission adopts bylaws changes, moves to quarterly meetings and names vice chair

The Mohave County Public Lands and Recreation Commission on Dec. 4 approved amendments to its commission bylaws, voted to shift regular meetings to a quarterly schedule, adopted a 2026 meeting calendar and confirmed Commissioner Smith as vice chair for 2026.

Clerk Roxanne summarized changes to the bylaws, describing several housekeeping edits and operational clarifications. She said the edits condense language about minute preparation and explicitly note remote participation: "we'll follow statute in the way we do that," Roxanne said, and the updated rules allow attendance via Teams.

Commissioners debated the proposal to change regular meetings from monthly to quarterly to better cluster substantive items. The chairman explained the quarterly schedule would set meetings for March, June, September and December; commissioners agreed to adopt the revised 2026 calendar showing meetings on March 5, June 4, Sept. 3 and Dec. 3.

The commission voted on the bylaw amendments as agendized; the chair declared the motion approved. Commissioners then accepted a nomination and voice-voted to continue Commissioner Smith as vice chair for 2026 after Commissioner Smith agreed to serve.

Supervisor Lincoln Felder later sought a procedural clarification that the record both amend the bylaws and formally adopt the calendar; the clerk and chair confirmed the commission intended both actions.

The commission did not specify additional substantive edits to the bylaw text at the meeting, and the chair said any further language (for example, clarifications about private-land projects) could be brought to the commission at its first quarterly meeting in March 2026.
